Recognizing the need for adequate shelter locally, in 1993 the Rev. Dr. Arthur Preisinger, Paul Bonner and Gene Schmidt joined forces to establish the Guadalupe Valley Habitat for Humanity affiliate, and also agreed to become HVHFH’s Board of Directors. Since then, GVHFH has partnered with more than 30 homeowners to build better lives for themselves and their children by providing decent, affordable housing.
Born out of a commitment to shared principles, partnerships with local churches and faith organizations play an important part in our goal to eliminate substandard housing. Faith organizations provide us with much-needed volunteer, spiritual, and financial contributions. Congregations that partner with us find new ways to express their faith and experience a stronger sense of community through their service to God.
Though we are committed to our Christian identity, Guadalupe Valley Habitat for Humanity warmly welcomes those of all faiths and no faiths to participate in all aspects of our ministry.
Benefits of partnership
Habitat projects can help people see God at work outside the four walls of the church.
Building together allows people to put their faith into action. Habitat becomes a living expression of Christian concern.
